Candle Making Kit: How To Choose The Best

When choosing which fragrance to complete your candle making kit we need to consider its origin.  Candle making fragrance have a variety of differing origins and this should be bourn in mind when deciding which to choose, the choice will depend on the type of candle you wish to make.

If you are producing a candle for use in aromatherapy you must use essential oils as only essential oils bring the benefits of aromatherapy.  Essential oils extracted from natural plants and these work best with naturally occurring wax.  These are soy, beeswax and palm oil.  By contrast if you are using synthetic fragrance oils to provide a good scent paraffin is more appropriate wax to use.

How a candle smells when it is burning and not burning is most important to remember when you are making a candle. The distance from the candle where you can smell the candle fragrance while it is burning is called “the throw”.  A distance of ten feet from the candle, with the fragrance as strong as it is next to the candle, is considered just right.  Fragrances differ and some are stronger than others it is the wax in the burning candle which acts as a catalyst to release the aroma and determines how far it extends from the candle.  Choosing the right combination of wax and fragrance oil makes a great difference to the final candle you make.

I’ve heard that there is a product that is supposed to help with the wax burning too fast from a candle with wood wick, Is this something i need?

Hi, I’ve not heard of the product you asked about. The speed of the burn is usually set by the thickness of the candle if you find your candle is burning too quickly try a slimmer/narrower wick for the same size of candle.

It’s not so often you see really thick candles with scent or fragrance. Why not? I am using the small round candles for most events and meetings, but they only last 4-6 hours, and to be honest, they don’t work like real candles – they melt to fast
