The Advantages of Soy Candle Wax
There are several different types of candle wax available to the candle maker. The most popular is paraffin wax made from petroleum oil which is inexpensive an important fact in this time of economic difficulty. Candle wax which comes from natural plants includes palm oil and soy wax. In the past many manufacturers used animal based waxes such as beeswax which sweet smelling and has solid burning qualities. There is a wide choice of waxes available and this looks at the advantages of using soy wax.
Soy candles burn more slowly than other types of candles; unlike paraffin wax candles which are smoky soy candles are clean burning and do not leave a residue on ceiling or walls.

Soy wax is cheaper than other candle making waxes.
It is safe to add dyes and fragrance oils to soy wax.
The harvest of palm wax is not always eco friendly and may damage the rain forest soy wax which originates in soy beans is eco friendly.

I went to my local craft store – splurged for the soy wax one. The candles turned out great – I now agree that the soy wax candles are much better. Thanks for all the info.

Wow, I’d never even heard of soy wax candles before!
I like the idea of them giving off less smoke too.

I just wanted to correct a misconception. Soy candles DO smoke, they just have what is called white smoke as opposed to the black smoke that paraffin wax candles have. It is a fact of physics that any carbon based combustable will have smoke.

I have not tried Soy candles yet, but I was very impressed with bee wax candles, and the smell from them. They do in fact smell like honey when burning, and of course other fragrances can be added. They also burn more slowly than normal cndles.
